An Excellent Shield Boss<br>options: Handle and Standoffs available too!<br>These bosses & handles are designed specifically for SCA heavy combat.<br>Choice of Steel Boss, Sanoprene Boss, or Accessory Handle indexed for the Sanoprene.<br>The Heavy version (Steel) weighs 780 grams (a little under 1 3/4 lbs) and is made of blued mild heavy gauge steel (looking to be 10-12 ga).  This version would make the stout heart of a classic center grip shield and measures<br>8" flange diameter<br>5 1/2" pocket diameter<br>2" cup depth<br>The Light version (Sanoprene) weighs 230 grams ( a little over 8 oz.) and is made of a high-density, high-durometer, injection-molded, nearly indestructible Sanoprene material. They have a slight amount of flexion that significantly absorbs shock.  These are a practical, lightweight, attractive, and consistent alternative to handmade bosses which are often less than perfect.<br>Measurements for the light version are:<br>Dimensions:<br>Outside diameter of flange: 8 1/4"+<br>Flange width: 1 1/4"<br>Bowl depth: 2 7/8"<br>Bowl diameter: 5 5/8" (inside where you'd have your hand)<br>Thickness of material: 1/5" measured at flange<br>In appearance, the light version features a black textured surface made to resemble hammered, blackened iron.<br>In form they have a deeper pocket for safety and to fit a variety of hand sizes.  Unlike any other non-metal bosses we've heard of, these are neither assembled from chunks of plastic nor made from something else; they're specifically designed and manufactured for SCA combat, with thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours invested in design, mold costs, and prototype runs.
